J. Weintraub has published fiction, essays, and poetry in all sorts of literary places, from The Massachusetts Review to New Criterion, from Prairie Schooner to Modern Philology. A member of the Dramatists Guild, he has had plays produced throughout the USA and in Australia, New Zealand, and India. His translations from the French and Italian have appeared in publications in the USA, the UK, and Australia, and his annotated translation of Eugène Briffault’s Paris à table: 1846 was recently published by Oxford University Press. This is his second appearance in Ascent, the first having been in the Fall 1984 issue (where his story won an Illinois Arts Council Fiction Award for that year) when it was under the editorship of the still much-missed Daniel Curley.
