Dear Reader,

Welcome to the new on-line format for Ascent magazine. After 32 years in print form, we’ve moved to a completely on-line format and we are very excited about the transition!

Here are some things you should know about our new format–

~ New work will always appear under the “New” heading on the front page.

~ The front page only allows us to put ten works per genre there, so when the 11th is accepted I will move the oldest off the front page. However, that work will remain listed under the genre button at the top. All work will be ordered by date of publication.

~ New work will be published just as soon as we accept it, so you should check back often!

~ The “Other Forms” category is a place where we will publish plays, letters, photographs, video, whatever we find interesting and essential and yet does not fit under the other genre titles.

~ All submissions need to go through the Submission Manager software. If you’d like us to consider your work, just click on the Submissions button.

~ The Readers Blog is your space–post it to as often as you’d like with writing about whatever interests you. I am not going to filter what is there except for those posts that are uncivil.

~ We have a Facebook group. I encourage you to join it as it will be a way for us to annouce news and events via email to Ascent readers. (Search Facebook for “Ascent magazine”)

~ My hope is to keep everything we accept for the on-line format always available. Once work is off the “New” page it will still be available for reading. Work (and Contributors) will be listed in decending date order.

~ The Search box on the top right is a way for you to quickly find writers or work that is no longer on the “New” page.

~ In the coming days, I will be going through the print issues and selecting a handful of gems to put on the archives page. I’ll never have more than three works there–it is not going to be a place to move the whole history of the magazine–but I hope you’ll check out that page often too as the content will be changing there frequently.

Again, thank you for your interest in Ascent magazine! I look forward to your comments, either on the blog or in private.

All best,

W. Scott Olsen, editor.
